It seems obvious that the US would easily be able to monitor all food and trace back any case of contaminated food to the source…not the case at all. With all of the horrendous ground beef/other red meat, poultry and cheese recalls we had in 2009, it honestly makes me nervous touching any [...] I watched a very interesting video on PBS News Hour on how the US is unable to track tainted food. The FDA takes far too long in their attempts to track the contaminated food that could cause salmonella poisoning and other terrible illnesses. Obama has taken steps to appoint a new FDA director with hopes [...] The federal government is investigating a beef plant in upstate NY which just recently recalled 550,000 pounds of contaminated ground beef. This ground beef was distributed all over the east coast and can be found in places like Trader Joe’s and Shaw’s. The ground beef was produced with a label which reads “EST 492″. So [...] Cattle companies are allowed to feed the waste of chickens to cows: manure, feathers, spilled feed, bedding material and dead rodents — this should not be allowed! Feeding cows this waste causes the outbreaks of E. coli and Salmonella. There are some feedlots that prohibit cattle by-products to be fed to other cows, [...] |
